I usually associate fund raising with raising money for a charity or perhaps for a group of kids to go on a school or mission trip. I say leave the fund raising to them. However, there are plenty of things you can do to raise money for a wedding…

-perhaps have a garage sale and ask family and friends if they have anything in their garages or basements that they will give you to sell.
-try collecting and turning in cans for a little extra cash.
-turn old books, clothes, etc. Into stores that give you money for them
-perhaps you have a relative, friend, or family friend who needs some house/yard work done for them
-maybe sell cookies, crafts, ect. At local events or craft fairs
-you can also browse the web for creative ways to create items that you need for your wedding by yourself
-there are also plenty of websites that have tips and tricks to get wedding needs for cheaper, to make them yourself, or have links to places where you can get deals
-ask family and freinds to help you make d.i.y. Items
-try to pick up some extra shifts
-get a temporary second job
-cut corners and save on what you’re already spending on – find the best deals, cut coupons, make cheaper meals, don’t go out as much, buy in bulk, reduce your cable/phone package, stop a magazine subscription and instead go to the library to read, etc.

These things might mean sacrifice, but it will all be worth it on your wedding day!

Check out “Pennies for Peace”, founded by Greg Mortenson. Schoolchildren have raised millions for aid to Pakistan, just by donating a penny or two each. It doesn’t seem like much to them, but it’s huge to Pakistanis. It will make children feel proud of themselves, too, and for good reason.

Something similar to that would probably work. Most of us don’t value our pennies much.

I would be interested in knowing, too. Especially why would Australia give Japan foreign aid? Japan is the 2nd richest country in the world. It’s like Australia giving foreign aid to the USA. The USA needs more aid than Japan, actually.

Japan is an advanced technological country that makes a lot more money than Australia does. There is no military aid, as far as I know. The only military in Japan is American. Financially, there may be some aid to earthquake victims in Niigata, but that’s all I can think of. That would just be charity, though.

Besides USA, Japan and Germany are really unique. They both produce very very good products and tend to dominate foreign trade. I wonder if it might be the German or Japanese model? Could it just be on average they are more intelligent? There are plenty of developed free markets out there, but most of can’t be compared to Germany or Japan.
